About Carnegie Stage 16
Most embryos at stage 16 are approximately 37 postovulatory days old and measure 11-14 mm in length. Distinguishing criteria for this stage include the external appearance of retinal pigment, the nasal pits face ventrally, pharyngeal arch 2 is more massive and conspicuous than arch 3, auricular bumps begin to appear, and the thigh, leg, and foot can be distinguished in the lower limb.
